Writing
is actually a great joy. In my view there is never any excuse for the presentation
of research to be as dry as it often seems to be. I confess that this view
has led others to criticise my written style, usually by deint of faint praise
or weasel words such as "robust" and "forthright".
I believe that if one writes imaginatively and, whilst treating subjects with due reverence, is aware of the comic potential inherent in much research, it is possible to add readability to the dullest of subject matter. Thus is its importance underlined.
